A Fatimid Jet King or Queen Chess Piece, 11th–13th Century.
This jet-black chess piece features a rounded top and a tapering cylindrical form. The surface is densely carved with swirling spiral patterns on the front and angular linear motifs along the sides. The back is adorned with block-like designs reminiscent of Kufic script, arranged in vertical alignment.
